Järfälla Concert Band
Järfälla Musikkår – Järfälla Concert Band – is a traditional band with wind and brass instruments and percussion. 35 musicians, many professional, in all ages play in the band, conducted since 1996 by Åke Hedbom.
Mr Hedbom is a musician with a broad background; graduated from the Royal College of Music in Stockholm. His main instruments are tuba and double bass, but he also plays and teaches all brass instruments and piano, besides being the conductor of Järfälla Concert Band. Åke Hedbom is also an active musician in Stockholm.
Järfälla Concert Band, founded in 1957 by Bengt Hedbom, Åke’s father, has made nearly 30 tours abroad over the years. The tours have been mostly to Europe, but also to the USA (2005 and 2010).
1989 the tour was to Marbella, Spain. The latest tour was to Salzburg and Munich in 2019.
Among the highlights in the band’s 60 year old history, was the audition with the Pope in Rome, together with the football team Roma. The band has played at football games, has performed in TV and Radio with different Swedish artists and also played for the Swedish royalties.
The goal for the band is to share and preserve the tradition of Swedish band music and Swedish Concert band. The repertoire is large; from marches and folk music, to classical music, film music and musicals. Some of the musicians in the band have made very fine musical arrangements for the band.
Järfälla is a northern suburb to Stockholm, 20 km from the city centre. Järfälla concert Band rehearses every Monday in the Järfälla auditorium. Järfälla Concert Band performs in green uniforms, the colour of Järfälla.
The band gets a small financial support from the community of Järfälla, but exsists mostly because of the large enthusiasm among the members and musicians in the band and of the positive feedback by the audience and supporters.
Järfälla Concert Band is considered to be one of the best concert bands in Sweden.
